The Short Version

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe “Misty Valley” At A Glance

Origin

Gedio, Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia

Process

Natural

Producers in the Gedio region have been reinventing the natural process originally developed in Ethiopia, giving a very different profile from this well known origin. A perfumed floral aroma leads into a crisp, complex fruit basket of strawberry, blueberry and raspberry, with a milky body behind it.

Provenance

Where It Comes From

Lost Dutchman Coffee Roasters product range

The washed, or “wet processed”, coffees of Yirgacheffe are prized for their delicate, tea-like aromatics and clean citrus flavor. Over the last few years producers in the Gedio region have been reinventing the natural process originally developed in Ethiopia to offer a very different profile from this well-known origin. The Misty Valley is a prime example of the fruitiness, complexity, and character of these Natural Yirgacheffe coffees. In the cup, Misty Valley delivers a perfumed floral aroma that leads into a crisp and complex fruit basket flavor (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries). A milky body provides the backbone for the fruit and aromatics, creating an intense harmonious balance. The cup finishes with lingering, pleasant mouthfeel.

Before You Order

Questions

Orders are typically shipped the same day they are roasted. So, it comes down to how fast the Post Office is. They advertise “from 1-5 business days depending on which state you’re located in.” You’ll receive tracking information via email so you can track the package’s progress.

It’s best not to grind the beans until you’re ready to use them, so grind just before you brew. Match the grind to your brewer: coarse for French press, Medium for most drip brewers. For pour overs: Medium to coarse, whichever gives you a four minute brew time (in general). Fine to very fine for espresso depending on your equipment.

Keep it in the bag it came in and put a rubber band around it. Glass containers are not great as the idea is to minimize the air (oxygen) around the beans. Unless completely full, glass containers have too much head room. If storing for up to several months, freezing is a good idea as long as the beans are completely sealed (like in the bags they come in). Studies have shown time and again that freezing, if done right, is a good option.

Currently, subscriptions are limited to a mix of single origin varietals and blends. A single coffee type for the length of the subscription is not an option. You can see how it works on the Coffee Club page.
