Where It Comes From

Lost Dutchman Coffee Roasters product range

Known as a pristine coffeemaker, Chemex® employs all of the chemically correct methods for brewing. It’s hourglass shaped flask is made entirely of glass, a chemically inert material that does not absorb odors or chemical residues. The Chemex® has no moving parts and will work forever, unless it is dropped or in some other way demolished. Chemex® filters are made of the highest quality filter paper. A wooden handled fastened to the glass with a piece of rawhide is the perfect insulator for handling the coffee maker just after brewing. The Chemex® Coffee Maker is the brain-child of Chemist Peter Schlumbohm who desired better taste and finer flavor than he was getting out of traditional filter brewers. Applying the techniques used to insure laboratory purity, he set out to brew what may have been the first cup of truly, clear, full-bodied coffee – free of undesirable fats, oils, sediment and most of all…bitterness.

Includes a polished wood collar with leather tie. (40 Ounce) Height: 9″ Diameter: 5 ¼”

Note: Chemex® defines “1 Cup” as 5 ounces.

The People Behind It

How We Roast It

Espresso machine behind the counter

Small Batch

Roasted to order in small batches. Never left sitting in a warehouse.

Freshness Guarantee

Orders are roasted as fast as we can process them. Every bag that goes out has a roast date label on it.

Master Craft

We roast on Ambex and Probat L12 drum roasters. Their flexible controls are what keep one batch tasting like the last.

Before You Order

Questions

Orders are typically shipped the same day they are roasted. So, it comes down to how fast the Post Office is. They advertise “from 1-5 business days depending on which state you’re located in.” You’ll receive tracking information via email so you can track the package’s progress.

It’s best not to grind the beans until you’re ready to use them, so grind just before you brew. Match the grind to your brewer: coarse for French press, Medium for most drip brewers. For pour overs: Medium to coarse, whichever gives you a four minute brew time (in general). Fine to very fine for espresso depending on your equipment.

Keep it in the bag it came in and put a rubber band around it. Glass containers are not great as the idea is to minimize the air (oxygen) around the beans. Unless completely full, glass containers have too much head room. If storing for up to several months, freezing is a good idea as long as the beans are completely sealed (like in the bags they come in). Studies have shown time and again that freezing, if done right, is a good option.

Currently, subscriptions are limited to a mix of single origin varietals and blends. A single coffee type for the length of the subscription is not an option. You can see how it works on the Coffee Club page.
